7th Annual Parkinson's Walk of East Tennessee

The 7th Annual Parkinson’s Walk of East Tennessee in support of the Parkinson’s Unity Walk was held in Oak Ridge, TN on Saturday, April 14, 2018. We got very lucky again with the weather – it was a beautiful sunny day!! Had we held it a week earlier or even a day later, we would have had a very different experience at our walk.

It takes a village to create a local walk with approximately 200 walkers. Our committee starts planning about six months in advance of the event, reaching out to potential sponsors. On walk day, participants of all ages gathered for the 1.2 mile walk. In addition to the walk route, there was a bake sale and a silent auction, and walkers received goody bags. They had the opportunity to meet with representatives from pharmaceutical companies, physical therapy practices, home health care agencies, assisted living facilities, Parkinson’s foundations, and instructors from Rock Steady Boxing, Yoga and Tai Chi classes.

We are pleased that we will have raised almost $17,000 ($2,000 more than last year). Not bad for a local support group from East Tennessee!!
