Cisco and Corporate Partners Play Hockey for Parkinson
On Thursday, March 15th, Cisco & NetApp along with ePlus & Emulex took over the Boston University Ice Rink to play a Hockey Game for Charity. This event really showed the power of partnership and partnership for a great cause. The hockey game was for charity, but you could see both sides really wanted to win. It is the competitive nature of the companies. Any fan of hockey saw some really good action, former players from DIV I Schools. As a hockey fan I was amazed at the talent on the ice.
This charity hockey game was started 3 years ago by Peter Friedman- RM SLED CE. It was his idea to bring hockey together with partners & give back. This is Cisco culture at its best! They have played another EcoSystem partner for the past 2 years, and this year starting playing against NetApp.
There is a lot of time and effort that goes into pulling off something like this event:
- Ice Rink
- Jerseys (Emulex picked up the cost)
- Charity Post event party (ePlus picked up the tab)
- So many other little details
Peter has been the one organizing this and it now has grown into something people really look forward to each year. Once these guys lace them up they become kids again. Peter also played in the event as he used to play at Connecticut.
You add in a great partner- NetApp and this just becomes something special. Eric Mann- WW VP at NetApp got behind this event and pushed it down to his teams. Eric also played in the game, and had some good 1-1 Battles with Peter. Eric understands the partnership, and just like Cisco culture, NetApp is also all about giving back. Both teams decided to raise money for Parkinson’s disease and together raised $15,000 in the fight against this horrible disease. Eric said many times this was so much fun, we have to make this happen at least once a year.
The efforts of Peter and many others that made this a great night for hockey and the Parkinson’s community!
