April 3, 2013 – The Robbleheads hosted a Happy Hour at the Brass Monkey, a local bar in Washington, DC on Friday, March 29th. I raised over $500 in three hours with a fun, easy-to-plan event. A friend of mine who is a bartender agreed to host the fundraiser at her bar so there were no expenses associated with the event. More money for research! I sent an e-mail out to a list of 50+ friends in the area inviting them to come have some drinks and support a good cause. I also created a Facebook event and promoted it through social media. I charged $15 at the door and the bar offered discounted beer & drinks for participants. People brought friends, coworkers, family, etc. Even with just a $15 donation per person, the money raised added up quickly. Many of the attendees were fellow Kenyon College alumni, so I used a Kenyon stamp at the door so the bartenders would know who was eligible for discounted drinks. The Robbleheads have now raised over $11,000 and are that much closer to our fundraising goal of raising $18,000 for Parkinson's research!
