New for 2011!

An earlier start time for the Walk
Central Park is requiring that we begin the Walk at 10:00am and are off the Walk route by noon. The Parks Department is concerned about the safety of our Walkers and other users of the Park. Any of you who have shared the Walk route with runners, bikers and skaters will understand their concerns.

Start your day at the Bandshell
Registration will be located at the Bandshell along with the Make-a-Sign Booth and the Team Meeting Area.

A shorter Walk route

Based on your feedback, we’ve shortened the Walk route. The Walk will still start by the Bandshell just as it has in the past. Our new one mile Walk route will lead you right onto Find a Cure Boulevard. We believe this will alleviate some of the crowding we’ve experienced in the past. This will also allow everyone to have more time to enjoy the community and educational aspects of the day. Due to the increase in the number of participants, it’s important that the route that does not start and end in the same location.

Two New Prizes for 2011!
A prize for the team captain of the top rookie team AND a raffle drawing for team captains of all teams raising $2500.00 or more.

Eligibility is based on donations received by 6/1/11.  Each winner will receive a $500 Visa gift card intended to support their team's fundraising efforts. Use the prize to pay for team t-shirts, team member's travel to or accommodations at the Walk, a celebratory meal or come up with other creative ways to support your team.  How the prize is used is at the Team Captain's discretion. Winners will be determined in early June and notified directly. Announcement of the winners will be posted on the Unity Walk website.  Consult our brochure for information on our existing raffle drawings and prizes.

More to do on Find a Cure Boulevard
There will be music and team interviews on Find a Cure Boulevard. This is in addition to the opportunity to visit with representatives from our sponsors; the seven major US Parkinson’s organizations that benefit from the Walk; movement disorder specialists; neurosurgeons, and physical therapists at the Ask the Doctor’s Booth; and Yorkie the Clown who will paint faces for the young and young at heart.

More hotel rooms in New York
We have secured additional hotel rooms at reduced rates in case more people want to stay in New York the night before or after the Walk. Check the PUW Event Information/While in NYC link on our website soon for more details.
