at the largest grassroots Parkinson’s fundraiser in the U.S.
(Kingston, N.J., November 29, 2012) The Parkinson Alliance announced today that the 19th Parkinson’s Unity Walk will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 in New York City’s Central Park.
Fundraising is already underway nationwide and we are encouraged by the response thus far from our supporters. We are building awareness about how vital contributions are in funding ground-breaking research on better treatments and hopefully, one day a cure.
In 2012, over $1.8 million was awarded to research funded by seven major U.S. Parkinson’s disease organizations. Since the Walk’s inception in 1994, one hundred percent of all of the donations raised for the Unity Walk has been and continues to be designated for research. Proceeds from the event are shared among seven major Parkinson’s disease foundations: American Parkinson Disease Association, National Parkinson Foundation, Parkinson’s Action Network, Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, The Parkinson Alliance, and The Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center.
The generosity of sponsors allows the Parkinson’s Unity Walk to donate one hundred percent of all donations directly to research. Abbott, a leading global health care company, is the Premier Sponsor and Proud Partner of the 19th Parkinson’s Unity Walk.
“Take action with the Parkinson’s Unity Walk because it is your chance to become empowered during Parkinson’s disease awareness month. Every donor and participant will count. Combined individual efforts can generate a large impact. Together, more funds can be raised and we can give hope to those living with the daily symptoms. As their support system, let’s act on behalf of someone living with Parkinson’s,” states Carol Walton, CEO of The Parkinson Alliance.
Walton added that the Parkinson’s Unity Walk is a chance for the community to unite, gather information, and be informed. “When thousands of people unite in one location, helpful hints can be shared with each other. This can positively impact someone’s quality of life the rest of the year.”
