Who won the 2004 Unity Walk Raffle Drawing?
On Saturday, April 24th during the program, Michelle Charlesworth, WABC-TV news media anchorwoman and master of ceremonies of the 10th annual Parkinson’s Unity Walk announced the name of the winner for the 1st raffle drawing in the Walks history.
The raffle bin was turning with over 7000 tickets inside, then a ticket was pulled and the name announced was Gail Eisgrau. A bride having her wedding ceremony at the exact same time her name was announced. You see—Gail wouldn't have heard her name announced over the microphone because she and Alexander Nash were saying their wedding vows behind the stage.
Last year Gail and Alexander—both having Parkinson’s, met each other at the doctor’s office and began to get to know each other during Parkinson’s support group visits. They decided that they wanted to have their ceremony during the 10th Parkinson’s Unity Walk where their family and friends can raise donations for Parkinson’s in lieu of wedding gifts.
The newlyweds were told of the win after their ceremony. They were so surprised and tears met their eyes. The 7-day, all-inclusive, luxurious cruise for two was given to Gail and Alexander. They will be leaving for Alaska in August.
Congratulations Gail and Alexander—in more ways than one!
Donations received and credited in increments of $100 as of April 15, 2004 were eligible for the drawing.
