PUW Announces Winner of PUW Memory Quilt
June 5, 2013 - Dan Lamendola, Team Captain of “A RI Team Since 1997” is the winner of this year’s PUW Memory Quilt. The quilt will be made from t-shirts representing close to 50 teams from the 2013 Walk and the top 50 team captains for this year’s Walk were eligible to win. A raffle drawing was held yesterday.
“A RI Team Since 1997” walked in memory of Marilyn Lamendola this year. Marilyn passed away in December, 2012 and this prize is a wonderful way to honor her memory and her contribution to the Unity Walk over the years. Marilyn was the founding captain of “Team Rhode Island” and for many years has attended the Unity Walk with her family as “A Walking Team from Rhode Island Since 1997.”
Back in the days when the Walk was several hundred people, Marilyn enjoyed seeing everyone in the same PUW t-shirt. For that reason, she preferred that her family wear the official PUW t-shirt on Walk day rather than creating a team t-shirt. So instead of including a t-shirt for “A RI Team Since 1997” in the quilt, we will include a t-shirt from an early Unity Walk to represent their participation.
Thanks to all who submitted their t-shirts for the memory quilt. Not only will it be a colorful memento from the Walk, each t-shirt represents the commitment of our teams to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease. A photo of the quilt will be posted on our website once it’s completed in the early fall.
