Margot Zobel, the Founder and Director of the Parkinson's Unity Walk will share Parkinson's related news and insights on a periodic basis.
June 2006
Over the years the Unity Walk has grown beyond our dreams and has become much more than a walk. I think of it as a celebration of a unified Parkinson's community which barely existed in 1994, when the Walk was founded. That was a time when people with Parkinson's were reluctant to acknowledge their disease, and when I was cautioned against even trying to organize a walk, "because people with Parkinson's don't walk." Well we proved the naysayers wrong, and that's something to celebrate.
We are proud of the thousands of people who came from far and wide to join us, and of the more than two million dollars for research we've raised in the last two years alone. We're grateful to the sponsors who paid our bills, and to the celebrities whose presence added pizzazz to the Walk.
Love,
Margot
