July 2003
Where do your dollars go?
A highly encouraging report has just come our way from The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF). It concerns the launch of MJFF's Community Fast Track 2003 research initiative, which aims, with the involvement of other Parkinson's organizations, to raise $4 million for Parkinson's research.
To date, the Parkinson's Disease Foundation expects to contribute $500,000, and the Unity Walk, in partnership with the Parkinson's Alliance, has pledged to contribute $200,000. Fast track is an investigator-initiated, peer-reviewed program that considers a broad range of research applications relevant to the cure, cause, prevention or improved treatment of Parkinson's disease.
Deborah W. Brooks, executive director of MJFF, invites other Parkinson's organizations to participate in this effort. "Over time," she says, "we hope that Community Fast Track serves as a springboard to greater collaboration within the Parkinson's community, as we all strive toward our common goal of curing PD."
A million of us share her hope.
What are your thoughts?
I would like to invite you to share this CORNER with me. If you have any thoughts, ideas, news, suggestions--or anything else that's of interest and fit to print--please send it to the Unity Walk e-mail address at info@unitywalk.org. I can't guarantee that I'll be able to fit it in, but I'll try.
Keep cool,
Margot
