When the going gets tough, the tough go sloshing through the rain. On April
26, nearly 4,000 tough walkers gathered in Central Park to slosh through the Ninth Annual Parkinson's Unity Walk.
Nearly a decade ago, when we first began to organize the Unity Walk, the nay-sayers somberly told us that "people with Parkinson's won't walk." Ignoring the warning, we went ahead and watched the Walk grow from 200 people in 1994 to 6,000 last year (when it wasn't raining). We have seen people overcome all sorts of obstacles to participate in the Walk - from tremors and dyskinesia to long distances and a myriad of discomforts that affect people with and without PD.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every walker and contributor for your dedication. You are the heart and soul of the Unity Walk.
