Margot Zobel, the Founder and Director of the Parkinson's Unity Walk will share Parkinson's related news and insights on a periodic basis.

July 2004

In my dreams, I didn't have Parkinson's. That was in the early years. I could run around the reservoir in Central Park. I didn't have tremors or a mask-like face, and no one stared at me because they thought I was staring at them. Best of all, I could laugh out loud. But each morning I awoke to face another day - and the realities of PD.

Two decades later, I no longer dream of miracles; I concentrate on cures. I think about the progress that's been made in my time in taming the symptoms of Parkinson's and making life more livable. I focus on the great hope for the future held out by stem cell research. And I try to think of strategies that will succeed in getting government funding for this research.

I won't try to guess how long it will take to find a cure. It may not come in my time, but if we work hard enough, the generations to come will be free of the scourge of Parkinson's. That's worth working for.
