About the PUW > Jocelyn Thomas, Secretary

Jocelyn Thomas is a communications specialist with a career background that includes work in journalism and advertising production for the pharmaceutical industry. She worked for six years at Ciba Pharmaceuticals (now Novartis) and eight years at Embryon, a medical education agency. Since 2006, Jocelyn has served as director of communications for the largest group of Franciscan friars in the United States (see www.hnp.org ) based in New York City.

Jocelyn, who has contributed her time and skills to the Walk since 1997, was drawn to the Walk from the painful experience of watching her mother suffer from Parkinson’s. She decided to dedicate her free time to “raising money and awareness to help in finding the cause and cure of this devastating disease.”

Her early efforts were focused on the planning and set-up of the Walk at Central Park including work as manager of volunteers. Jocelyn has served on the Walk’s board of directors since 2000 and became its secretary in 2001.

Jocelyn’s recent work has focused on publicizing the Walk through community outreach initiatives including appearances at PD conferences. Jocelyn serves as the Walk’s ambassador to former attorney general Janet Reno. She is proud to have been instrumental in obtaining Ms. Reno’s participation in the event.
