About the PUW > Robert Ubell, President

Robert Ubell is the Dean of Professional Education at Stevens Institute of Technology. He launched the school's first online graduate program, WebCampus.Stevens, winner of the Sloan award as the "best online university in the nation." Earlier, Ubell held a number of positions in publishing. He was vice-president and editor-in-chief of Plenum Publishing Corporation, editor of the National Magazine Award-winning monthly, The Sciences, and American publisher of the premier British science weekly, Nature. Ubell received his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College and has taught at MIT and Columbia's College of Physicians & Surgeons and has been awarded grants from the Sloan, Hazen, IEEE, Mellon, Schalkenbach, and Russell Sage Foundations and New Jersey Virtual University.

Ubell was elected President in honor of his brother, Earl Ubell, a distinguished journalist, who had Parkinson's disease and previously held this post since the inception of the Unity Walk.  Earl Ubell lost his battle with Parkinson’s disease in spring, 2007.
