Create your fundraising event to benefit the Unity Walk – as an individual or a team. The ideas for these events are generated by and organized by our participants.

Matching Gifts

The easiest fundraising you’ll ever do. Remind your donors to ask if their employers have a Matching Gifts Program. Matching gifts can double their donation. Encourage them to contact the Human Resources Department at their company or organization. The Unity Walk staff will process the matching gift forms once they are sent to our office but donors first need to ask their employers how to get the process started. The PUW's EIN is 13-3842415. Matching gift companies generally send matching checks from one to six months after the original donation was made to PUW. All companies have a different policy. Once we receive the matching check it will be added to your personal donation page.

Milestone Celebrations

Milestone celebrations are a great way to raise money. Approaching a milestone birthday or anniversary? Getting married? Ask your friends and family to donate to the Unity Walk in lieu of a gift. Or make a donation in honor of this milestone and the Unity Walk will send you acknowledgement cards you can give to your supporters.

Order T-shirts

Create your own t-shirts
Many walkers and teams choose to create and wear their own t-shirt at the Walk. Order through Instant Imprints and a portion of the sale will be donated back to your fundraising efforts on behalf of the Unity Walk.

Walk in Style – Create a Team T-shirt
While walkers who have raised $100 or more receive the Unity Walk t-shirt, many teams choose to create and wear their own team t-shirt. Our teams’ creativity is impressive!

Consider ordering t-shirts through Instant Imprints and they will donate a portion of the sale back to your team’s fundraising efforts on behalf of the Unity Walk. The donated portion based on your t-shirt order will be credited to your team’s fundraising efforts.

T-shirts are $9 for lighter colors, and $13 and for darker or neon colors or tie-dye cotton t-shirts. This includes custom printing on the front and back. They will need your artwork in an eps or high definition pdf file and not a jpg file. Their staff is available to help you if you need assistance preparing your artwork. Instant Imprints is located in NJ but orders can be shipped nationally. Actual UPS fees will be charged and not a set shipping and handling charge.

For more information or to place your order, email Colin Ormrod at cormrod@yahoo.com rather than ordering through their website. Questions? Call Colin or Laurie Spziani at 973-252-9500.

There are so many ways to raise funds for the Parkinson’s Unity Walk – large and small. Some are new and others stand the test of time.

Think about who you are connected to. They are more likely to be willing to help. We know participants who have created events in collaboration with their yoga instructor, favorite restaurant owner, the staff at their dentist’s office, and the local minor league baseball park, to name just a few.

You can create a fundraising event, whether you plan to attend the Walk in New York or live at a distance and are unable to join us in Central Park in April. Either way, an event in your local community supports your fundraising efforts and raises funds for Parkinson’s research.

Here are just a few of the fundraising events you may want to consider creating:

Let us know about your event so we can feature it on our Parkiinson's CHAMP in Action page.

Step 1

Brainstorm with your friends and family. Come up with an idea that is fun, manageable and has buy in from those who are prepared to work on this with you.

Step 2

Prepare an event budget as part of your planning process.

Step 3

Figure out how you are going to pay the expenses associated with your event. There are several options.  You may:

Step 4

What is your plan to raise money?

Step 5

Work out the logistics – date, time, place, venue, space constraints, etc. Leave yourself enough time for planning depending on the complexity of the event.

Step 6

Contact the venue to confirm their requirements to secure the space (e.g., permits, deposits and applications). Possible venues include but aren’t limited to schools, parks, places of worship, bars, and restaurants.

Step 7

Contact the PUW office to discuss your plans or if you need any assistance.

Step 8

Spread the word! Develop a strategy to promote your event.

Step 9

Add your event to the PUW calendar.

Step 10

Enjoy your event and take satisfaction in knowing that you have raised funds for Parkinson’s research!
