3rd Annual Team Nashville Playing for Parkinson's

On Saturday, December 5, 2015 we hosted the 3rd Annual Playing for Parkinson's Fundraiser. The evening began at 6:30 with a silent auction which included 62 items ranging from local restaurant gift certificates to athletic memberships to weekend getaway hotel stays. There was something for everyone in all price ranges from $10 - $750.  Around 7:00 we all took our seats for the concert to begin.  Callaghan, a personal friend and extremely talented singer/songwriter from the UK has been critical to the success of this event. She has donated her time to our cause three times now. During the intermission following the 1st set, we served dinner to our guests. The menu was prepared for the third year in a row by two of my closest friends, Missi and Don Dean, who are chefs and caterers. Bread was provided by Provence Bakery here in Nashville. Following dinner we returned to our seats for the second set of the concert. Callaghan’s voice is breathtakingly beautiful. She sang while playing both the acoustic guitar and keyboard. She was accompanied by Mike on the electric guitar and Okorie on the cello. It was a night no one will soon forget!!

We wrapped up the night by checking on the final bids! We then announced the winners of the silent auction items. Once again the auction was a big success! We raised $4000 from the silent auction and $4335 from the door. I would say that $8000 plus in one night is a huge success!

We thoroughly enjoy hosting this event. Each time, it’s been held on the first weekend of December.  Everyone always comments that it is the kick-off to their holiday season and they look forward to it every year. The local businesses here in Nashville have been extremely generous in donating items to the silent auction. I solicited and picked up the 62 donations myself over the course of two months. To prepare for this event, I have to clean and decorate my house for Christmas, which I would have to do anyway. Hosting the Playing for Parkinson’s Fundraiser helps me get it done sooner. After that, there’s shopping for the groceries, setting up chairs and tables, and all the things required to serve a dinner with wine, and we are all set. My family is a tremendous help with the setup!  Now to our seats!! ”Let the music begin!!”
