Justine Time to Dance for PUW
(April 9, 2014) - Last year was the first year I was involved in the Parkinson’s Unity Walk. My friend Mary and I both had family members who lived with Parkinson’s and in their memory we were inspired to participate in the Unity Walk.
In Nov. 2013, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was benign and successfully removed. I am now almost 5 months post op, tumor free and hugely grateful!
I have been a Ballroom Dance instructor for 28 years and have a very supportive group of students in Bucks County PA, who through my recent neurological experience, I continued to teach. Over the last few months I had challenges with my balance due to meds and noticed aht when dancing much of my discomfort took a back seat. Dance is a universal language that is healing, joyful and truly brings people together.
I decided to add a division to my studio philosophy which is dedicated to “Dancing for a Cause”. PUW was the first cause that I chose to support in this way. I extended the opportunity to my students, family, friends and community to make a donation and enjoy a dance party in honor of the Unity Walk.
My dance club is called Justine Time to Dance and the fundraising division is called Justine Time to Dance for a Cause. Our event was held at a local Peruvian Restaurant that extended their space to me for a Salsa party at no charge. On 3.29.14 from 3:00 – 5:00pm, my PUW team members hosted a table during the party telling the guests about our team while I taught, danced and kept the party swirling on the dance floor. Our guests purchased items from the menu and made donations to our team so it was a whirling success for all!
I plan on hosting the same Justine Time to Dance for PUW next year and if anyone in the Bucks County, PA area needs a Ballroom Dance Instructor for a PUW fundraiser, I would be happy to offer my services or invite them to join forces with me in 2015!
