CHAMPs > CHAMP in Action
I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) two years ago at the age of 41. I quickly realized how critical it was for me to become proactive. I started researching fundraising opportunities and came across the Parkinson's Unity Walk in New York’s Central Park. “Team Ryan’s Hope” was created and it was during my first Unity Walk in 2011 that I realized we CAN change the course of this disease.
Based on the inspiration I received from the Unity Walk and my team members, I realized I had to pay it forward - to assist others who are newly diagnosed with PD, inspire them to live their lives to the fullest extent possible, and support those who care for them. To expand my reach, this past summer I created a web site (www.ryans-hope.net) and a blog (http://blog.ryans-hope.net/). This is an informational site for people living with PD and those who support us. It lists up to date information on research and treatments, upcoming fundraising opportunities, resources for patients and families, and inspiring stories from the Parkinson’s community. You can connect to the blog directly or through a link on the website. You can subscribe to receive blog updates via email by supplying your email address in the subscribe box. You can also be kept up to date by "Liking" Team Ryan's Hope on Facebook or "Follow" Ryans_Hope on Twitter.
As we move closer to the goal of finding a cure for PD, I will continue to be a strong advocate for Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease awareness and research. If I can support other members of the Parkinson’s community in anyway, do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
